Blogs demonstrate the freedom of the Internet in many ways. You can include whatever content or topic you wish, add photos or not, and link to any page you want. But a successful corporate blog works best when it attracts the most readers, and to do so, you need to follow three easy rules.
1) Provide visual relief: All text and no photos makes Jack a dull boy. Include a large photo, up to 300×300 pixels, with each post. You can find copyright-free images on the web by visiting www.freeimages.com. Once there, you can select any keyword you choose and get images you can use immediately without any payment.
2) Link to other authoritative sources. While many web designers think you should shun outbound links (you don’t want to drive traffic away from your site), with blogs the rules are different. You want to emphasize your arguments by linking to appropriate background or sources to back up your viewpoint.
3) Use WordPress plug-ins to make your blog look attractive. In addition to photos, you can use a “pull quote” plug-in in order to set apart quotations in a separate box in your entry. You can also use related content plug-ins to generate thumbnails at the end of your post describing other entries the visitor may wish to peruse. Even dressing up the text with underlining and bold fonts can make your entry look more appealing.
Blogging in itself is not difficult. Getting people to link to your blog may require more effort.
