How to Change Your Blog Template: Header and Navigation Bar


This tutorial will show you how to change the navigation bar on your blog. To do so, you will first need to access the WordPress coding and then change the permissions for the header file in your hosting company’s control panel.The permissions for a file controls who can make changes and it is usually restricted in its default setting … So, first sign in to your dashboard.

Then, go to appearance in the left-side navigation bar and click on editor from the pull-down menu.

You will see a new window called “Edit Themes” and a list of files on the right-hand side. You will want to change the file titled header.php. Click on header.php to see the coding in this file.

Most likely, you will not be able to make changes to this file, or if you do, they won’t take.

In order to edit the file, you need to access your hosting company’s control panel and change the file permissions for your blog’s folder. You can do this in GoDaddy by first signing in and clicking on your account in the upper right hand corner.

Then, you need to expand your hosting section and launch your website.

Finally, click to expand setting and options, and then select the file manager.

Then you need to select the folder holding your blog and go to the top navigation bar to find the item titled “permissions.” Click on permissions.

Uncheck the box marked inherit and check the boxes titled read and write.

Then, you can go back to the header.php file from earlier, find the navigation bar, make appropriate changes to the text, and, if necessary, the html links, and you’re done. Finally you may also want to change the “permissions” back to the more restrictive setting.
